Cerkno Cup’s earnings are used to financially support ambitious young athletes and to work toward development of orienteering in younger generations. We are also trying to organize more training camps on non-karst terrains and take part in international competitions.

At the begging of the summer our best youth and juniors participated at EYOC and JWOC. Most of them are either members of OK Azimut or OK Komenda (organizing clubs of Cerkno Cup). Some have made great improvement and managed to run stable races: Matic Blaž and Žan Ravnikar, both competing in M16 performed well and made solid results at EYOC. In the long distance race Mark Bogataj, M18 achieved the best Slovenian result ever in his category.

At JWOC our runners had to deal with unknown Scandinavian terrains. Nuša Jeram managed to set a new best Slovenian result in sprint on JWOCs so far.

Join our young runners next year at Cerkno Cup 2016!

Q: What was the most interesting orienteering terrain you ran in 2018 and why? Cerkno Cup! After the World Champs I travelled to Slovenia and ran Cerkno Cup. It was held in very beautiful and challenging karst terrain. We were warmly welcomed by the organisers and the quality of mapping/course setting was world class. It would be nice to see a World Cup or World championships in Slovenia soon!Tim Robertson
